In my travels through DA's stock artist galleries I have come across so many with odd and rather ambiguous restrictions. Mind you I'm not talking about specific restrictions which are understandable. Restrictions such as no off site, print usage and other such clear and concise limits are very understandable and reasonable to me.

I am the type of person who follows rules, and asks permission before using something in a manner beyond what the owner has outlined. As such, there are some restrictions that artists put on images that I just can't get my head around sometimes, usually because they are so vague.

Some examples:

Sexual images - Define sexual for me please! Do you mean as it is defined by DA in the FAQ's for "sexual imagery"? Or do you mean your own definition. If you mean by your's, then please tell me what it is.

Erotic images- See "Sexual images." What's very vanilla to me may be over the top to you.

No fetish or kinky images - What’s a fetish to you? A midget riding a llama might be normal to me, but might be kinky to you.

No suggestive manips - Suggestive of what?

Hate art - Similar to sexual, DA tries to define this here: "'Hate Art' and 'Hate Propaganda'". I think most people can tell when something is "over the top" but please let me know if your restriction follows the DA definition or your own.

No R rated or PG rated images - Huh? Does a kid with a bloody nose on your image of a playground count as "R" rated due to blood and implied violence?

No bad language - Once again, please define it, do you mean just four letter words?

No politics - Just kind of annoying is all...

No religion - See politics.

Fave it if you use it - Seriously? This may be the most annoying restriction of all time. If you’re given credit and links back, why clutter up someone favorites gallery with pictures of machinery, rocks and so on. I mean really, many of the images are nothing to look at until someone comes along and dresses them up.

Be creative! - OK, this one I actually understand. But if I use a forest as a background in whole or in part, how creative do I need to be? After all, I still want it to be a forest.

Yes there are more examples, no dark images, no light images, no magic, no llamas, no this and no that. But I think I need to conclude this mini-rant.

I know some stock artists will respond with "Then don't use my stuff!"
I agree with them totally, I won't use it. I much prefer artists who allow me some creative wiggle room to work within anyhow.

I draw, paint and do other "artsy" stuff, but for some reason I love to do manips. I don't know why, maybe it is my desire to learn more about the software, to be able to take one thing and create something new from it or perhaps the way I can bring an idea to life this way better than by using other mediums. But when some of these artists put a half dozen restrictions on usage in such a vague manner, if one was to try and use it in any way it would dam near be impossible. I fully support artists’ rights and respect their rules, I just ask that you please give me rules I can understand, follow and still be creative with.

Yesterday I stopped in and noticed my page was defaced. It seems some nawty deviant had somehow stuck a llama on me that now follows me where ever I go. While I now find the little guy to be kinda cute, at first his presence was disturbing. I mean here was this fur bearing beastie following me, no perhaps stalking me is a better term. I had contacted the authorities but they were no help at all. It seems one can not get a restraining order against a llama. Not sure of it's intentions, I found myself looking over my shoulder trying to keep an eye on it in my travels through deviant land. While it now seems that this critter is perhaps benign, I am still a bit uneasy. I hope that some mad llama plot for world domination is not afoot. I am now torn, should I thank the fair lass who has given me this llama or was she simply doing the bidding of her llama overlords to further some nefarious plot.
For now I shall say thank you to Chiketsu for the llama, but shall plan my defense and plot my revenge in case one of these llamas should suddenly decide to attack.

Demons prize

Toughts on "Demons prize" and bondax

On Demons prize

I have been wanting to some "dark" images lately and thought that a demon and a lovely lady could provide that outlet. With this image, I'm not sure if the final result expresses that dark mood, mainly because it involves a bright flaming demon. On the one hand, the demon seems to draw a lot of focus, yet also frames the helpless lass. I tried to convey highlights to her, as though the main light source had come from the demon himself. I had also thought of using another model for this type of piece that did not involve bondage, and may yet have a go at that as well.

Other elements I had thought about adding in included some type of priestess or smaller demon as though they had summoned the "big guy" to come claim his prize. After much debate and trying a few other looks I decided it might be better to just leave it to the viewer to come to their own conclusions as to who left the helpless maiden in such a precarious situation. Her fate is left to ones imagination as well.

The background image is by Marcus Ranums stock images. I have already shared some of my thoughts on his work in my previous post so I won't dwell on that topic. The demon is from unholy stock. Though unholy is no longer adding to the stock gallery, there are some very nice, varied and useful images available there. Links to these artists are provided in the notes on "Demons prize."

Since I came across the work of bondax, I have thought about how I could use some of his images to create some deviations to share. After sending a note to him, he was very kind to grant me permission to create some images based on his work. It was very generous of him to extend this permission and so to bondax a big thank you is in order.

On bondax

I came across bondax and his work not long after I joined DA. Watching the number of images he was submitting was mind blowing. I thought to myself here is a person with some rope, models, a camera and he sure as heck is not afriad to use them! He actually became the only artist I have ever stopped following becuase he overflowed my inbox. Thankfully, stacks arrived and I can once again safely follow his work.

My first impressions of his work were that he was having a lot of fun with taking pictures. I enjoyed the "home grown" feel to the pictures yet at the same time was hoping for more variation to his work.

In a pretty short amount of time, my opinion is that he and his models have grown and expanded as artists. The settings and bondage styles are becoming more varied, the models have become more expressive and in his more recent images there seems to be more emotion captured. To me it is that connection between the model being able to express emotions, the photographer being able to capture it, then to pass it on to a viewer and evoke an emotional response within them that shows an artists skills. There is still a fun and whimsical attitude in many of his images still and I hope he continues to show that fun  side while continuing to explore other aspects of his chosen art form.

Thank you again to bondax for sharing, be sure to give him a visit!

While persusing stock photos I happened across the wonderful work done by Marcus J. Ranum in his stock account. I found myself looking through the offerings there numerous times and with each new page it seemed to inspire a new idea about how these lovely images could be used. The models convey untold emotions so well, and the size and framimg of the photos makes each ones potential limited only by ones skills (very meager in my case) or ideas.

It very well may be that the greatest thing any artist can do is to inspire others, no matter what form that inspiration takes. In that regard I must say that Mr. Ranum has suceeded and is indeed a wonderful artist since his photographs have indeed inspired me and will no doubt continue to do so. I feel as though my skills may not be up to the task of fully binging to life my ideas, it is none the less a lot of fun to try and I hope that maybe they will even inspire others a little in return.

Here is what he has inspired from me so far: nawtyhawk.deviantart.com/art/W…

I just came across another very cool picture here and got to thinking that although it is nice that we can comment on others work I wish we could add comments to things we post in our favorites gallery. Since we can't do that I figured the best way may be to just pop a note in the journal. Since now is as good a time to start as any, here goes!

The first shot is posted in the gallery of RichardKnightly as "Catsuit Dive".
It is located here: richardknightly.deviantart.com…
The color contrast is striking, the angle of the shot, flowing curves in everything from the fin to her hair makes this a striking shot in and of itself. The fact that the model is actually wearing a latex body suit while diving takes this image over the top for me in originality to say the least. An absolutely smoking shot in my opinion that is worth a second or even several more looks.

The second shot is posted in the gallery of ~BODYKOLLEkTOR as "UNTITLED 2".
It is located here: bodykollektor.deviantart.com/a…
The way the lighting on the models arm as well as the rope I feel draws you to the highlight of this photo which is the models expression. The emotion and mood she conveys is awesome. Too many times I feel emotions feel contrived or faked. She pulls you in with her expression and even after looking at it several times you can feel hints of several emotions and moods there. It is a rare model that can so convincingly convey feelings like this and a dam lucky and talented artist that can capture it.

While it seems a bit late to go over all my faves I think two others are well worth mentioning.

"Running Bear" by *roperookie is a big bundle of sexy and humor all wrapped in brown fur. The image is located here: roperookie.deviantart.com/art/…
*roperookie dropped me a line on this commenting on how special this image is to him and I can fully understand why!

The last one I really need to mention is "Rats in the Cellar Page 16" by *faile35 located here: faile35.deviantart.com/art/Rat…
Since I was speaking about capturing emotions, moods and feelings this image is by far one of the finest drawings I have ever seen accomplish this so well. You can almost feel the physical and emotional tension. The emotions she is feeling are once more conveyed through her expression. The subtle elements in this image all work together to draw you in and let you be part of that emotion and energy. I think this is one reason why I love the work of *faile35, the time he puts in to all aspects of his drawings, the story and reasons behind it as well as the emotions of the participants, are all thought out, blended together and then brought into the images he creates. A very unique artist indeed.

To others whose images I have favorited, I apologize for not giving you full reviews. Needless to say I love each of your works for each of their own reasons but for now I will let anyone who stumbles across my words here figure out those reasons on their own.
